Spitzer Documentation & Tools
Guidelines for Publication Acknowledgments

All publications based on Spitzer data or NASA funding support should carry an appropriate acknowledgment.

If you are simply using data from Spitzer, but not funding, simply use the following:"This work is based [in part] on observations made with the Spitzer Space Telescope, which was operated by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology under a contract with NASA."

If the research was supported by NASA data analysis funds, the publication should carry an explicit acknowledgment of that support. Consult the table below to determine the most appropriate means of acknowledgment.

  • If your home institution is a university, non-profit research institution (e.g., STScI, Caltech, JPL, or IPAC), or corporation, use Column A in the Table.
  • If your home institution is a NASA Center or any other federal government organization, use Column B in the Table.

In papers describing Spitzer results, investigators should provide reference(s) to fundamental papers describing the Observatory, including the relevant science instruments. Moreover, the SSC encourages Spitzer investigators to reference primary Legacy Science project results, and/or primary data analysis software publications, where appropriate.
