Cool Stars 14 - Submitted Abstract # 349 This version created on 05 October 2006 The Trapezium Cluster IMF Fiona Riddick, Penn State University Kevin Luhman, Penn State University We have conducted a spectroscopic survey of ~80 low-mass M-type stars and brown dwarfs in the Trapezium Cluster in Orion. At these low masses, mass tracks are nearly vertical on the H-R diagram therefore spectral types should be well correlated with mass. This allows the distribution of spectral types from different star-forming regions to be used to compare their IMFs. From optical spectra we assess cluster membership probability for the objects and determine spectral types, which are in the range M0.5-8.5. We compare the IMF obtained in this way with those seen in other star-forming regions such as IC 348 and Taurus. ----------------------------------
