Introduction

During the mission, a number of in-flight tests were conducted to verify or understand those aspects of the performance of the instrument which could not be estimated with sufficient accuracy before the flight. These tests are described in this chapter. The production of the ISSA images involved three major processing steps. First, the entire IRAS survey detector data were reprocessed using improved pointing reconstruction and calibration algorithms, §III.A. The time-ordered detector data were then reorganized according to celestial position, §III.B. Finally, the images were produced after removing the zodiacal foreground and destriping, §III.C.
