I. Diagnostic Plots

The following plots show various measures of photometric performance in recent 2MAPPS v3.0 RTB night runs. Only sources with |b| > 20^o in each night were used in the evaluations. The rows labelled "v2.x" in the Proc_date column contain the results from preliminary processing (2MAPPS v2.x).

• Color-Color and CMD Hess Diagrams - Color-color, and color-magnitude Hess diagrams are shown for sources not identified with artifacts in three different galactic latitude ranges for each night. The "H" link shows the diagrams in the range |b| < 5^o, "M" for 5^o < |b| < 20^o, and "L" for |b| > 20^o.



• Saturated R1 Color-Color Diagram - The J-H-K_s color-color diagram for stars with one or more bands saturated in R1. Photometry for the saturated bands is measured using the 1-d radial-profile fitting method.

  Color coding of the points indicates in which bands the source is saturated:

  • black - saturated in all three bands
  • blue - saturated in J only
  • cyan - saturated in J and H
  • green - saturated in H only
  • magenta - saturated in H and K_s
  • red - saturated in K_s only

  The green and red lines show the predicted main sequence and gaint branch from Bessel and Brett.




• The K_s vs. J-K_s color-magnitude diagram. Color coding of the points indicates in which bands the source is saturated:
  • black - saturated in J and K_s
  • blue - saturated in J only
  • red - saturated in K_s only

  The small black points indicated the colors or stars with non-saturated Read_1 photometry for context.




• The H vs. H-K_s color-magnitude diagram. Color coding of the points indicates in which bands the source is saturated:
  • black - saturated in H and K_s
  • blue - saturated in H only
  • red - saturated in K_s only

  The small black points indicated the colors or stars with non-saturated Read_1 photometry for context.




• Photometric Uncertainty vs. Magnitude - The magnitude uncertainty returned by the various photometry routines plotted as a function of magnitude. Blue points represent saturated R1 photometry, green points represent R1 aperture photometry, and black points represent R2-R1 profile-fitting photometry. Horizontal lines are drawn at the sigma equivalents of SNR=10:1 and SNR=5:1.



• M_psf-M_ap vs. Mag - These figures show the photometric offsets as a function of the profile-fit magnitude. The small black points are individual stars and the larger red points are the trimmed average offsets in bins of 0.1 magnitude. The horizontal green lines are drawn at -0.01, 0.0 and +0.01 mag for reference.



• M_psf-M_ap on Edges - These figures show the mean photometric offsets in the 0.1 magnitude bins for each night with the black lines showing the means of all sources, the green points are the mean offsets of sources within 50" of the east edge of the focal plane, and the red points are the mean offsets of sources within 50" of the west edge of the arrays.



• M_psf-M_ap vs. Cross-Scan Position - These figures show the mean photometric offsets of sources as a function of cross-scan position, in 5.1" cross-scan bins. The blue points show the mean offsets for sources with J < 13 mag, H < 12.5 mag and K_s < 12.0 mag, and the red points show the mean offsets for sources fainter than those limits.



• Chi-squared vs. Magnitude - These figures show the reduced chi-squared as a function of the profile-fit magnitude. The small black points are individual stars and the larger red points are the trimmed average chi-squared in bins of 0.1 magnitude. The horizontal green line is drawn at chi-sqared = 1.0 for reference.



• Chi-squared vs. Cross-Scan Position - These figures show the mean reduced chi-squared values of sources as a function of cross-scan position, in 5.1" cross-scan bins. The blue points show the mean offsets for sources with J < 13 mag, H < 12.5 mag and K_s < 12.0 mag, and the red points show the mean offsets for sources fainter than those limits.



• Avg. Colors vs. Cross-Scan Position - These figures shows the mean J-H, H-K_s and J-K_s for R2 sources in the brightness ranges 9 < J < 13, 8.5 < H < 12.5 and 8 < K_s < 12 plotted versus cross-scan position. The small points represent individual sources. The large points, connected with straight lines are the trimmed average color in 51" wide cross-scan bins. The error bars on the latter are the RMS of the trimmed-average colors.



• Avg. Colors vs. In-Scan Position - These figures shows the mean J-H, H-K_s and J-K_s for R2 sources in the brightness ranges 9 < J < 13, 8.5 < H < 12.5 and 8 < K_s < 12 plotted versus in-scan position. The small points represent individual sources. The large points, connected with straight lines are the trimmed average color in 512" wide in-scan bins. The error bars on the latter are the RMS of the trimmed-average colors.
