COSMOS ACS Mosaic Information

The ACS v2.0 mosaic was created by Anton Koekemoer at STScI, using cycle 12+13 data. The README has further information on the ACS mosaic. The mosaic as a single file is a 168,000 x 168,000 pixel FITS image, which is 225GB in size. Since this file is over 2GB in size (unix 32bit "large file" limit), the full-resolution mosaic cannot be downloaded in its entirety via HTTP. Instead, you can download one of the scaled-down images listed below, or download the mosaic as a set of 144 tile FITS images, which can be found here and are described in more detail in the table below.

Scaled-down ACS Mosaics:

• 23MB binned FITS image (full size mosaics binned by a factor of 100 in both x and y)
• 46MB binned FITS image (full size mosaics binned by a factor of 70 in both x and y)
• 90MB binned FITS image (full size mosaics binned by a factor of 50 in both x and y)
• 361MB binned FITS image (full size mosaics binned by a factor of 25 in both x and y)
• 2.25GB binned FITS image (full size mosaics binned by a factor of 10 in both x and y)
• 13MB JPEG (grey scale image of the binned mosaic)

ACS Mosaic Tiles:

Click on the tile number to download each FITS (gzip format) image slice of the mosaic. Tile numbers correspond to the COSMOS CFHT Tile Diagram. Each file is under 2GB in size when unzipped (20,480 pixels square). North is "up" on image below.
