IRTS - Instrument Summary

The following table summarizes the IRTS onboard instrumentation.

Instrument Name Wavelength (microns) Spectral Resolution Array Configuration Spatial Field/Resolution
NIRS (spectrometer) 1.4-4.0 res elt. 0.12 um linear 2 x 12 elt. arrays 8' x 8' FOV
MIRS (spectrometer) 5.5-11.7 res elt. 0.23-0.36 um linear 32 elt. array 8' x 8' FOV
FILM (spectrometer) 155, 158 Resolution R= 130, 409 Individual Detectors 8' x 13'
FIRP (photometer) 50, 400, 700 Resolution R = 3 Individual Bolometers 30' Diameter

Note 1. The specifications of the IRTS FILM Instrument (Shibai et al. 1994) specifies output of detectors at these wavelengths: 155.3 um, 157.73 um, 160.26um and 63.13 um. In the ISAS delivered archive, only the 155um channel and 157um channel are presented where the latter is labeled CII in data file names.

Note 2. The specifications of the IRTS FIRP Instrument (Lange, et al. 1994) specifies output of detectors at these wavelengths: 150, 250, 400, and 700 um. In the ISAS delivered archive, the 150 um detector output is always absent, and the 250 and 400 um detector output is sometimes absent.

A synopsis of the FILM 155 micron data can be found here; and on the FILM CII data can be found here.

Additional notes on FILM by Steve Lord, an IRSA Scientist, are available here to help users.
