FLS -- Ancillary
MMT/Hectospec Catalog Data

FLS Ancillary MMT/Hectospec data accompany the
paper, Papovich et al. (2006), AJ, in press,
available at: http://arvix.org/abs/astro-ph/0512623.
Please see the paper for project and data
details. IRSA serves the three primary
catalog/table data products from the FLS
Ancillary MMT/Hectospec second (v2) data release;
spatial searches using Atlas or
advanced search queries on catalog columns using
Gator.
In order to ingest the released FLS Hectospec
catalogs into the IRSA archive, the ASCII
tables had to be converted into the
IPAC
format. These changes were minor, like
the header "#" characters were converted to the
"\" character; a column header was added to
define each column name and datatype above each
data column. Atlas uses the catalogs in ASCII
form for searching, while Gator uses tables
ingested into a database. Since the ASCII
versions of the catalogs had column names which
did not fit into the field width of the columns,
IRSA had to shorten some of the column
names in these catalog for use in
Atlas. Note that Gator has identical column
names as those published/released (except "Z" is
called "REDSHIFT" because 'Z' is an IRSA reserved
database column name), however, since the
database is case-insensitive, Gator search
results have column names in lower case. IRSA has
created additional browse
products, including spectra previews and
ASCII spectrum table files for all MMT/Hectospec
data. These browse products are accessed in Atlas
search results, through additional columns in the
FLS MMT/Hectospec Spectroscopic Catalog
(fls_v2.mmt_spectra.tbl), described below.
All the data returned from Atlas and Gator
searches are listed in tabular form on the
results page. This help page explains the format
and columns of the catalog metadata tables
(standard flat ASCII file in IPAC
format).
