Cool Stars 14 - Submitted Abstract # 163 This version created on 05 October 2006 SONG - a global network of small telescopes for asteroseismology and planet searches Torben Arentoft, University of Aarhus, Denmark Frank Grundahl, University of Aarhus, Denmark Hans Kjeldsen, University of Aarhus, Denmark SONG (Stellar Oscillations Network Group) is an initiative to design and build a global network of small, automatic telescopes with very sensitive spectrographs for high-precision radial velocity measurements. SONG will be used for long, uninterrupted time-series observations of mainly solar-like stars for asteroseismology and planet detection. The SONG telescopes will also be equipped with an imager for planet detection through microlensing. We describe the ideas behind SONG and present the first results of simulations concerning one of the potential science cases for SONG; an asteroseismic survey of nearby, solar-like stars to derive stellar ages from seismic signals. ----------------------------------
