IRSA hosts data from six astrophysics missions and projects. The Infrared
Astronomical Satellite (IRAS), the 2-Micron All Sky Survey (2MASS) and the
Midcourse Space Experiment (MSX) are major infrared sky surveys. IRAS performed
the first wide-area sky survey in the thermal infrared. 2MASS is the first
multi-TB, all-sky, fully digital image and catalog data set. As the successor
of IRAS, MSX provided higher spatial resolution coverage of the Galactic Plane,
and surveyed areas missed by IRAS (the "IRAS Gaps"). The Submillimeter
Wave Astronomy Satellite (SWAS) measures submillimeter spectra of astronomical
targets. The Infrared Telescope in Space (IRTS) performed imaging and spectroscopy
of swaths of the sky. The Spitzer Space Telescope Ancillary data sets are served
on behalf of Spitzer and the Spitzer Legacy Teams, and consist of multi-wavelength
catalogs, images and spectra.
