*The numbers in the table link to lists of papers that have been
associated with each mission. For Spitzer and for Planck papers by
authors other than the Planck Collaboration, we rely on the lists
curated by librarians associated with those missions. For WISE, 2MASS,
IRAS, and Other IRSA Holdings, we used the ADS Labs Integrated
Search to search the full text of refeered journal articles for
the missions or the archive. The number of papers returned are shown
in the table above, and are linked to a list of those papers. An empirically determined statistical correction factor is computed to determine the fraction of papers that go beyond a passing mention of the mission or the use of a source name derived from the mission and is listed in the last column of the table. The numbers of papers listed in the table have not had the correction factor applied. However, the "Statistically Adjusted Total" which appears in the last row of the table does have all statistical correction factors applied. The Statistically Adjusted Total includes only Spitzer, WISE, 2MASS, IRAS, and Other IRSA Holdings. It does not include Planck. Papers that use data from multiple missions will be listed more than one time, once for each relevant mission. Because many papers include multi-wavelength analyses, many papers are reproduced in more than one list. For example, in 2010, the overlap between the WISE and 2MASS lists is 1.5%, but rises steadily with time, reaching 25% in 2014. The Statistically Adjusted Total and the plot at the top of this page take into account the correction factor described in the previous paragraph and do not double-count papers. More details on the methodology used to generate this table is provided here. Last Updated December 7, 2015. |
