October 22, 2015: Cycle 4 Results announced.
The SOFIA Cycle 4 Call for Proposals , released on May 1, 2015 solicited observing proposals using SOFIA from the US and International astronomical communities for approximately 500 hours of observing time. It was issued on behalf of NASA by the Universities Space Research Association (USRA). Approximately 80 hours of observing time were offered via the German SOFIA Cycle 4 proposal call to astronomers affiliated with German institutions. The deadline for Phase I proposal submission to both US and German queues was July 10, 2015.
A total of 185 proposals were received, 155 through the USRA-led NASA call and 30 from German institutions through the DSI-led call. The proposals underwent technical and feasibility analysis at the SOFIA Science Center in support of the independent peer reviews, which took place mid-August, 2015 for the US queue and early September for the German queue. The recommendations of the US and German peer review panels were then merged and approved by the SOFIA Science Mission Operations Director and Deputy Director.
The titles and abstracts of approved Cycle 4 programs are available on the results page .
Cycle 4 observations will start in February 2016.
