The deadline for Phase II proposal submission is 5:00 pm (Pacific Time), November 25, 2015.

SOFIA Spot (SSpot) v2.9.1 (or higher) must be used for preparing and submitting Phase II observing proposals. The Principal Investigator (PI) Data Cycle System (DCS) account used during the Phase I submission must be used to log in to the DCS in order to retrieve program information and submit Phase II proposals.

The basic steps for Cycle 4 Phase II are:

1) Download SSpot.
2) Run SSpot, log in to the DCS, and search for your program Observing Plan.
3) Let SSpot automatically create Astronomical Observation Requests (AORs) for each observation.
4) Use SSpot to make modifications to the AORs.
5) Save the AORs and upload them to the DCS.

SSpot User Guide

The Pocket Guide and User Guide are also included in the SSpot download package.

The instrument specific instructions, contained in the web pages linked below, assume that the user has downloaded SSpot and has read the SSpot User Guide. In particular, successful Cycle 4 Guest Investigators (GIs) should have followed the instructions in section 6.3 of the SSpot User Guide and created Astronomical Observation Requests (AORs) from their existing, approved Observing Plans.

Observer's Handbook

The SOFIA Observer's Handbook for Cycle 4 (Current Version: v4.1.4, June 29, 2015) provides details about the observatory and instrument capabilities.
